The Sprintcar Entrants Group (SEG) was formed in 2000 as a marketing body for top level Sprintcar racing in Western Australia.
The SEG mission is to promote the sport as a professional entertainment package in order to generate revenue to be used by teams to continuously improve the spectacle.
The Sprintcar Entrants Group (SEG) primary focus was the marketing, development & promotion of WA Sprintcar racing, i.e. Open Sprintcars.
Naturally the SEG recognized the importance of the 360cu.in. Sprintcars, but they believed that if the Sprintcar division was to thrive there must be a healthy outright division.
Their strategies were therefore focused on encouraging the 360 competitors to ultimately make the step up to the Open division
AMBITIONS
1- A substantial end of season prize money pool to supplement normal race meeting prize money. Our first season (2000-01) was targeted at $30,000, fully underwritten by the two promoters, but ended up being $35,000, all raised from sponsorship.
That amount has risen each year, with record payout figures
Entrants will compete in over 24 rounds in 2010’11 for significant prize pool.
2- To have exciting race formats, decided prior to the commencement of the season & not to be changed throughout the season. Similarly the race calendar, race prize money,
3- To have an agreement with our stakeholders ie: the Entrants & the Drivers recognizing our mutual interest & obligations.
4- Other than sponsorship obligations, our key concern is the reputation of the sport
i.e. the good behaviour both on & off the track of our competitor members, the word is PROFESSIONALISM AND RESPECT
5- The fostering of new sponsors to the sport & the strategies needed to retain them in the future. Sprintcar racing is the most exciting form of motor sport that is receiving increasing television coverage, TV coverage, etc has to be committed early so that the competitors can plan accurately & early. All of this has been a feature of the Sprintcar Entrants Group Sprintcar Series each year.
12 Hours of NATIONAL television coverage each racing season.
Screened in millions of homes and thousands of clubs, hotels, motels, casinos and sporting venues.
6- The sensible containment of costs. We see a control tyre arrangement as an important part of this aim.
In 2010 the Control tyre rule will include two (2) right rear tyres only per night/race meeting – this rule is a terrific step in the right direction as long as it is implemented & administered properly.
7- The fostering of new entrants into the sport. We see a "mentor" programme as an obvious need. Too many people take up the sport only to leave it very quickly. We have to stop this trend, by offering correct advice & encouragement in all areas to newcomers to Sprintcar racing.
There are many other important issues, some of which are not our responsibility & not within our ability to impact on them. The one rule we can abide by is “Is it good for Sprintcar racing?”
If we all stick to that rule, then the sport will improve to everybody's benefit.
